Announcing Joy of Motorcycling’s® 2021 Grand Re-Opening!

3 Minute Read

My name is Joy Medved, I am the founder of Joy of Motorcycling®. Those of you who have followed me for the past 10-20 years, know that Joy of Motorcycling® has been a major part of my life since 2000. I started the organization to help riders improve their knowledge and understanding of the art and science of riding motorcycles, and, of course, to help riders learn how to have more fun motorcycling!

For the first 15 years of Joy of Motorcycling®, I put everything I had into building a unique classroom-based motorcycle training company, which included the first and only traffic violator school dedicated to motorcyclists in the United States. Designed to complement, not compete with, range schools, I provided topics such as, How to Anticipate Animal Antics, How to Predict Traffic Troubles, and How to Select Lanes & Lines, just to name a few. I also taught road captain and crash management courses, and my motorcycle pick-up demonstrations were always well attended. Everyone loves seeing women pick up a 1,000-pound Goldwing!

I loved traveling around on my motorcycle, training and speaking at motorcycle events throughout the United States. I was absolutely dedicated to providing motorcycle riders with a well-rounded education to help them manage the risk and increase their confidence. Yes, I loved every minute of it! (Being a Motorcycle Mentor is an awesome calling, I highly recommend it!)

Joy of Motorcycling® also gave me purpose and direction in my life at a time when I really needed it. In 1999, I had successfully survived cancer, but was left unable to have children while still in my 20s. Then, in early 2000 and barely recovered from the cancer, I was involved in a major motorcycle crash that took almost two years for me to recover. I was riding my ’84 GL1200 Goldwing when I was physically run over by a hit-and-run driver who fled the border to Mexico; this was before most people had cell phones, so communication was a bit slower in those days. Yes, he got away.

However, those early life-changing experiences fueled my motivation to build Joy of Motorcycling® into something I would be proud of, something people would find useful, and perhaps even something people would find life-saving. And, for about 15 years, everything went really well…

Then, as fate would have it, in 2016, I was involved in another serious motorcycle crash that left me with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Because of the TBI, I was unable to continue with Joy of Motorcycling®, and was also forced to retire from my consulting career and withdraw from graduate school. For the past five years, I have been on the very slow road to recovery. And, while it has become obvious that it is impossible for me to resume my former career or education because of the TBI, I am very happy that Joy of Motorcycling® is online once again!

With a lot of help from friends, and an awesome Webmistress named Kirsty, I am excited to announce the 2021 relaunch, today, November 1, 2020, which just happens to also be my birthday. (While I maintain this wasn’t planned, I half suspect Kirsty manipulated the universal temporal vortex to align the planets so everything would line up at the right time.) Regardless, I’m very happy it turned out this way. I look forward to celebrating the first anniversary of the new Joy of Motorcycling® on my next birthday. Thank you, Kirsty!

As part of the 2021 Grand Re-Opening, I would like to invite you to check out the all-new Joy of Motorcycling® website at: www.joyofmotorcycling.com. Kirsty has done an awesome job turning my vision into reality, and will continue to help me provide new Gallery Photos, Blog Articles and other web-based information on a regular basis. I do hope you enjoy the Gallery Photos, they truly are motorcycling eye candy at its finest! There will also be new and updated training and speaking topics coming in 2021 for your in-person and online events.

And, keep an eye out for my first book, “The Joy of Motorcycling®,” slated to be published by the end of 2021! You can follow me for “teaser” Blog Articles from the book chapters, as they are prepared.

In closing, I want to say a special thank you to my friends who supported me during these past five years. The road to recovery has been extremely challenging for me. I could not have gotten this far, or been able to relaunch Joy of Motorcycling® without all of you. Thank you for being there for me. And, thank you, especially, for believing in me, even when I didn’t believe in myself. I still have a long way to go, but now I have a purpose and a direction in life, once again. Thank you!

For those of you who followed me during those first 15 years, as well as those of you who are new to Joy of Motorcycling®, I look forward to sharing my insights and experience with you as a Motorcycle Mentor, Trainer and Speaker once again, as I share my secrets on how to, Conquer the risk, Master the machine, and Have more fun motorcycling!

Ride to Ride Again,
Joy Medved, Founder
Joy of Motorcycling®
